3 Tips to Create a Homework Nook Kids Will Love

Is it already August? Yes indeed! And the end of summer means back-to-school season is here.

With the new school year on the horizon, here are 3 tips for creating an inviting homework nook for kids, to help make this often-dreaded moment easier for little ones… and grown-ups too!

1- Set Aside a Space Just for Homework and Lessons

Whether it's in the living room, the dining room, or the bedroom, your child needs a space dedicated to homework. That way, they'll know that when they sit down there, it's to get their homework done. This space should be free of distractions like toys and screens, and it should feel inviting. Avoid dark corners! Put yourself in their shoes. Would you want to work facing a bare wall, with no light, all day?

If you don't have a space to dedicate to a homework nook, you can use a basket or a bin that holds everything your child needs to do their homework. That way, your child will associate that basket with homework and understand that when the basket comes out, it's time to hit the books. 2- Tailor the Space to Your Child's Needs and Taste

Once you've settled on the space that will become the homework nook, it needs to be set up around your child's needs and taste. Choose a desk and chair sized just for them. Homework time is often long and tedious, both for kids and for parents. This is often caused by a child's lack of organization. They get discouraged by everything they have to do, so they lose motivation quickly.

To make this time more enjoyable, we suggest using visual organization tools, like calendars or to-do lists. By writing down the tasks your child needs to complete, they'll be able to see their progress throughout their homework session.
