January Artist of the Month: Jean-Simon Bégin

As you already know, Décor Imprimé’s mission is to shine a spotlight on homegrown artists. So far, you’ve gotten to know about twenty different artists through their art and their talent.

For 2022, we want to give you an even deeper look into the world of the artists we carefully select. So each month, one artist will be featured across all our platforms! You’ll be able to get to know them through our blog, our newsletter, our social media, and our website.

For January, we’re thrilled to introduce Jean-Simon Bégin, a photographer with over 20 years of experience in wildlife photography. Through his incomparable images, he transports us to places most of us will never have the chance to visit, to admire the wildlife and landscapes of Quebec.

Born in Cap-Rouge, in the Quebec City region, Jean-Simon has always felt close to nature, largely thanks to camping trips through Quebec’s national parks. Naturally curious, his early interest in insects gradually grew into a passion for wildlife and nature as a whole.

Self-taught by nature, Jean-Simon studied graphic design before taking the leap into self-employment. Now 30 years old, he has more than 78,000 followers on Facebook and 51,000 on Instagram. Beyond social media, he shares his passion for wildlife photography by offering books, calendars, and various items featuring his photos on his website, as well as his artwork (because yes, on top of being a photographer, Jean-Simon is also a painter!). He also offers a kayak photography course, ideal for fellow nature lovers like him!

To help you get to know him a little better, we asked him a few questions:

What is your mission, or what do you want to communicate to the people who view and buy your photographs?

I want to be the bridge between nature and people. I’m trying to bring us closer to nature. Through my different platforms, I want to raise people’s awareness of how important it is to protect nature.

How do you choose a new species to photograph?

I look into recent sightings in a given area. I try to gather as much information as I can, and then I go for it!

What’s your favourite animal to photograph?

Definitely the caribou. It’s found all across the territory, and it represents the full fragility of our biodiversity.
