A Japanese-Inspired Dining Room by Déconome
It all started on Instagram, when Stéphanie Guéritaud (Déconome) asked her followers to help her track down a Japanese-inspired wallpaper she couldn't find anywhere on the market. Our team caught wind of her request and suggested she try our 'Custom' service. Using our in-house graphic design studio, we were able to recreate the pattern based on the fabric that had originally inspired her. And just like that, the DÉLIA pattern was born!
Déconome, the Decor Stylist Always on the Hunt for a Good Deal
Decor entered Stéphanie Guéritaud's life in 2010. As the new owner of her first home and a decor journalist for Je décore and IDÉES DÉCO magazines, she decided to start a decor blog to deepen her knowledge and help others decorate on a budget.
More than a decade later, Stéphanie shares her finds, projects, and inspiration daily on her blog, as well as on her Instagram page, which now has 13,000 followers.
Stéphanie's philosophy is simple: redecorating a space on a budget takes time. Time to search, to compare, to dig around. You can't decorate affordably and have everything done overnight. It's a process that takes time and research.
Her best tips for decorating without breaking the bank? First, buy secondhand, for example at thrift stores, flea markets, on marketplace apps, or at Renaissance. Second, Stéphanie loves paint. In her view, you can paint just about anything, as long as you have the right kind of paint! Plus, paint is affordable and accessible. Anyone with a bit of care can paint! The project began with the dining room of one of Stéphanie's neighbours. Since the space was open-concept with the living room and kitchen, Stéphanie suggested installing wallpaper on the window wall to visually separate the dining area from the rest of the space. Stéphanie's neighbour had been dreaming of a Japanese-inspired dining room, so she immediately pulled out a fabric swatch she already owned: a striped, Japanese-inspired pattern.
Since wallpaper in this style didn't exist on the market, our graphic design studio created the pattern entirely from scratch, then gave it a beautiful blue colourway, just as Stéphanie and her neighbour had hoped.
The result: a geometric pattern that is simple yet complex at the same time. From a distance, the pattern looks light, almost blurred. Up close, it reveals a pattern that's busy yet simple. Perfect for adding a Japanese touch to any room!
