Lavender Julep and her One Room Challenge

The One Room Challenge is an 8-week decorating event where 20 interior designers are invited to transform a room. Each week, they share their journey through blog posts, videos, or Instagram content.

Additionally, as the goal of the One Room Challenge is to inspire people to decorate, guest designers (called “guests”) can also participate. Thus, every Thursday, all One Room Challenge participants share content, creating a weekly wave of inspiration for the public.

Julie Garel (@lavender_julep), an interior designer from Ontario, participated as a guest in the One Room Challenge. Since she is pregnant, she decided to decorate her upcoming child's room.

Summary of her journey

Week 1: mood board

For Week 1 of her ORC, Julie presents her mood board for her baby girl's room, who will arrive in July. Her theme: Boho Wildflower Nursery. As a nature lover, Julie was determined to incorporate flowers and raw materials into the room. Moreover, the key element of the room will be a magnificent Décor Imprimé wallpaper from Natasha Prévost's collection. A pretty floral pattern on a sage green background.

Week 2: her to-do list

After the mood board, comes the preparation of all the steps to be carried out. To do this, Julie presents a list of everything she wants to accomplish in the room: paint all the walls, install a custom-made wardrobe, find the right lighting and window coverings, install the wallpaper, and more.

Week 3: transforming a piece of furniture into a changing table

Julie loves to repurpose furniture and transform it to bring it up to date. This is exactly what she did for the changing table. Rather than buying new, she found a simple 3-drawer unit on Facebook Marketplace, which was in good condition but needed a refresh. After a good coat of paint and new handles, the furniture looks like it came straight out of Pinterest.

Week 4: wallpaper installation

Since the wallpaper is the key element of her room, Julie wanted to choose an elegant, timeless pattern that would still add a WOW effect to the room. Thanks to the White Flowers and Co.. textured vinyl by Natasha Prévost, the result is very successful!

Week 5: the closet

Since it's a small room with only a small closet, Julie was determined to integrate a custom storage module inside it. Thanks to IKEA's Aurdal module, she was able to customize the interior of the closet 100% to her needs.

Week 6: wall decoration

As the challenge is coming to an end, only the wall decoration remains to be installed. To do this, Julie chose to install a small gallery wall above the rocking chair. To properly choose the placement of each frame, she first cut out pieces of cardboard the size of her frames and then glued them to the wall. This technique allowed her to visualize the final result. With the addition of a few shelves and frames, the wall decoration is successfully completed!

Week 7 - Final Touches

For Week 7 of her challenge, Julie presents the final touches of her decor: the rug, window treatments, and decoration. She also shares the problems she encountered: with one week left in the challenge, she still has several items to buy/receive. Will she succeed in her challenge?

Week 8 - Final Result

The final result is magnificent! Her Boho Wildflower Nursery theme is 100% respected. Each element is highlighted while being coordinated with each other through the sage, orange, and light wood tones.

The star element of the decor is definitely the wallpaper. It highlights the bed while creating a sense of depth and making the room feel larger.

With the rest of the room being very understated and simple, the overall decor is peaceful and invites rest. A room in which a little one will certainly thrive!
