Lavender Julep's One Room Challenge

The One Room Challenge is an 8-week decorating event during which 20 interior designers are invited to transform a room. Each week, they share their journey through blog posts, videos, or Instagram content.

On top of that, since the goal of the One Room Challenge is to inspire people to decorate, guest designers (called "guests") can also take part. So every Thursday, all the participants of the One Room Challenge share new content, creating a weekly wave of inspiration for their audience.

Julie Garel (@lavender_julep), an interior designer from Ontario, took part as a guest in the One Room Challenge. Since she was expecting, she decided to decorate the nursery for her baby on the way.

A Recap of Her Journey

Week 1: Moodboard

For week 1 of her ORC, Julie shows us the moodboard for her baby girl's nursery, arriving in July. Her theme: Boho Wildflower Nursery. As a lover of nature, Julie was determined to bring flowers and raw materials into the room. In fact, the key feature of the room will be a gorgeous Décor Imprimé wallpaper from the Natasha Prévost collection. A lovely floral pattern on a sage green background.

Week 2: Her To-Do List

After the moodboard comes planning out every step. To do this, Julie shares a list of everything she wants to accomplish in the room: paint all the walls, install a custom closet, find the right lighting and window treatments, install the wallpaper, and more.

Week 3: Turning a Piece of Furniture into a Changing Table

Julie loves rescuing old furniture and giving it a fresh, updated look. That's exactly what she did for the changing table. Rather than buying new, she found a simple 3-drawer dresser on Facebook Marketplace that was in good shape but needed a little refresh. After a fresh coat of paint and new handles, the piece looks like it came straight off Pinterest.

Week 4: Installing the Wallpaper

Since the wallpaper was the key element of her room, Julie wanted a pattern that felt elegant and timeless while still adding a real WOW effect to the room. Thanks to the Fleurs blanches et cie. textured vinyl pattern by Natasha Prévost, the result is a real success!

Week 5: The Closet

Since it's a small room with just a small closet, Julie was determined to fit a custom storage system inside it. Thanks to the IKEA Aurdal system, she was able to customize the inside of the closet 100% to her needs.

Week 6: Wall Decor

With the challenge winding down, all that's left is the wall decor. To do this, Julie chose to install a small gallery wall above the rocking chair. To get the placement of each frame just right, she first cut pieces of cardboard to the size of her frames, then taped them to the wall. This technique let her fully visualize the final result. With a few shelves and frames added in, the wall decor was a success!

Week 7 - The Finishing Touches

For week 7 of her challenge, Julie shows us the finishing touches of her decor: the rug, the window treatments, and the styling. She also shares the challenges she ran into: with just one week left in the challenge, she still has several items left to buy or receive. Will she pull off her challenge in time?

Week 8 - The Final Reveal

The final result is gorgeous! Her Boho Wildflower Nursery theme is honoured 100%. Every element is showcased while tying together beautifully thanks to the sage, orange, and pale wood tones.

The undisputed star of the decor is the wallpaper. It highlights the crib while also creating a sense of depth and making the room feel bigger.

With the rest of the nursery kept very simple and understated, the overall decor feels peaceful and restful. A room where a little one is sure to thrive!
