Pantone's 2022 Color of the Year and How to Bring It Into Your Décor

At the start of every year, textile, design, and fashion companies wait eagerly for the announcement of the Pantone Color of the Year.

This color, identified by Pantone, goes on to guide the year's trends across many fields, including interior design, graphic design, and fashion.

WHAT IS A PANTONE COLOR?
A Pantone color is a shade identified with a name and a code, set by the company of the same name, Pantone. Present in the design and fashion world for decades, Pantone color charts have become essential for any business working in fashion, decor, or design in general. They've become a standard that makes life much easier for companies working with these colors. For example, if a company wants to print t-shirts with its logo, it can simply tell the manufacturer it wants its logo printed in Pantone 2728 C. The manufacturer can then make sure the printed color matches the Pantone chart exactly.

In 2021, we got a duo of colors, 17-5104 Ultimate Grey and 13-0647 Illuminating. Together, these colors captured the difficult year ahead of us: grey for resilience, yellow for optimism.

For 2022, Pantone gives us a bold color that sparks creativity: Very Peri 17-3938. According to Pantone, "this shade represents the period of transition we're currently living through." With it, the company hopes to inspire us to step out of a long period of isolation and create again, with a fresh perspective on the world. It's also a color that reads beautifully on our screens, since, as Pantone puts it, "our physical and digital worlds have fused in a way that has forever changed our notions of normal, and Very Peri helps us to visually and conceptually embrace this moment of transition."
