The Colorful, Whimsical World of Katrin Leblond

When our team discovered Katrin Leblond's work, we knew right away we wanted to bring her gorgeous creations to our network of homeowners and designers.

‘Fashion is the art of wearing art.’

Just as fashion is the art of wearing art, wall decor is the art of displaying it. Since we're aligned on the same vision, we knew this collaboration could only be a success.
That's how we're excited to introduce artist and designer Katrin Leblond, along with her very first wallpaper and wall decal collection in collaboration with Décor Imprimé.

Who Is Katrin Leblond?

A textile designer with more than 20 years in the industry, Katrin Leblond was born and raised in Montreal. After studying Fine Arts at Concordia University, Katrin took her first job in the textile industry, where she learned how to create a repeating pattern. Driven by a desire to create and inspired by the nature around her, Katrin decided to launch her own clothing brand. Unable to find the fabrics she wanted on the market, she made the decision to design and manufacture her own. That's when her brand really took off and carved out its place on the Montreal fashion scene.

Now well established in Montreal's Mile End neighborhood, Katrin creates her clothing from A to Z, from designing the pattern and choosing the colors to printing the fabric and sewing the garments.

The clothes Katrin offers her customers are unique and well made. Her clientele, mostly women between 40 and 70 who are often outgoing and expressive, look for pieces that are not only colorful and playful, but also well made and ethically produced. They also especially appreciate that Katrin's clothing is literally wearable art, which makes every piece unique and special to put on.

Nature as Her Main Inspiration

When asked to describe her main sources of inspiration, Katrin answers without hesitation: the nature around her. With a small cottage in the Laurentians, she tells us that each pattern often starts with a walk in the forest.

“Mushrooms, ferns, moths, flowers, and so on. All the little things that so often get overlooked in the city.”

Otherwise, she loves reading about and drawing inspiration from environmental artists and activists like Suzanne Simard, Robin Wall Kimmerer, and Christi Belcourt. This passion for the environment has even sparked collaborations, like the one with Suzanne Simard, where a cushion collection was sold with a portion of the proceeds going to Suzanne Simard's forest research.

When it comes to art and design, folk art from around the world is a major source of inspiration for Katrin and her team. She also loves the aesthetic of designers from tropical climates, with their vibrant colors and natural motifs, especially designers from Brazil, California, and Australia.

The Environment and Ethics at the Heart of Her Values

Respect for the environment and for animals has always been at the core of her personal values, so as an entrepreneur, Katrin could never offer a product that made her money while harming our planet.

Because of that, every element of a garment, from the fabric to the thread to the zipper, is carefully chosen from Quebec, Canadian, and sometimes international manufacturers, always with an eye toward reducing the fossil fuels required for transport as much as possible.

Her Collection with Décor Imprimé

“It's a career I wish I'd pursued!” she exclaims when asked why she got interested in home decor. Katrin already offers a few cushions in her shop, but wallpaper is a first for her. Since she feels motivated and happy whenever she walks into a well-decorated, thoughtfully designed space, she wants to offer that same feeling to her customers.

Her very first collection with Décor Imprimé features 4 pattern families, each one as colorful and extravagant as the next.

Fantasmagorie

Originally a fairly small, monochrome pattern, Katrin decided to present it to us in color and oversized. This creates a really striking abstract mural that we can easily picture in a modern or japandi-style space.

Finally, she also decided to isolate certain elements to create a set of wall decals in bright, fun colors. Arranged randomly, these decals are perfect for adding a pop of vibrance to a space.

Jardin de nuit

An iconic pattern already beloved by Katrin's clientele, the Jardin de nuit wallpaper is made up of many small flowers, leaves, and other floral elements. The orientation of the elements, the colors, and the scale of the drawings all come together to create a very lively pattern. From a distance, the pattern is almost neutral and understated, but move in closer to discover dynamic illustrations and warm, vibrant colors.

For the wall decal set, we instead decided to present the elements at a larger scale, making it the ideal addition for creating a focal point and bringing movement to a room.

Papillons de nuit

This warm-toned botanical pattern will charm anyone who loves moths and butterflies. Inspired by the moths that come to rest on her window every evening, Katrin wanted to create a colorful, vibrant, and eclectic pattern.
Dare to use it in a small space, like a powder room or closet, and you'll be amazed by the warm effect this wallpaper brings.

And if you love moths and butterflies, you'll certainly be charmed by the decals inspired by the pattern. They're sure to be the key piece in your decor, plus they're affordable and very easy to install.

Playa

For a more neutral yet still fun decor, Katrin designed this wallpaper featuring flying birds. Available in 2 colors, this wallpaper works beautifully in a kid's bedroom, a living room, or a home office alike.

Finally, the Playa pattern has also been adapted into wall decals, letting you create your own composition. Consider using them as a headboard to draw the eye, or to dress up a blank wall behind a piece of furniture, for example.
